A Root canal is done to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth instead of removing it. The term “root canal” comes from cleaning of the canals inside a tooth’s root. They can be performed by specialists known as Endodontists, or in many cases by Dr. Eric right here at Camarillo Family Dentistry.

In many cases, and especially for back teeth, root canal treatment is followed by the placement of a crown (also known as a cap) to minimize the chances of the tooth breaking. For root canals done in office, the tooth can often be prepared for a crown on the same day while the area is still numb. This will prevent you from having to come in again for an additional appointment where you might have to get numb all over again, saving you time and maximizing convenience.
